Background

Richard Powell (1948 - 2023) was the first Executive Director of the Maine Event Ministries Board of Directors. It was Richard and his wife, Carole, who felt God’s calling to bring a Christian youth camp ministry program to the Greater Portland Community.

Richard and Carole met at a youth camp which was sponsored by their childhood church. They went to camp as campers and then continued each year as volunteer staff, committed to the ministry to youth. They both consistently served on the planning committee and Richard served for many years as the Camp Director. Because of their passion for camp, Richard and Carole took their years of experience, their various contacts with local campgrounds and their vision for a community camp to local evangelical churches and pastors who became partners in the ministry. In January of 2016, Camp 207 was established.

The Richard Powell Memorial Fund was established by his family in May of 2023. One of Richard’s goals was to be able to assist the ministry in a financial way. Whether it was to help a student attend camp or give financially to the general fund, he was as generous to Camp 207 as he was faithful.

Purpose of Camp 207

Camp 207 is held in August for one week. We strive to provide each camper with the opportunities of salvation, discipleship and fellowship in a unique atmosphere of Christian love that a Bible-centered camping program offers. One of the greatest values of Camp is the entire church working together for the common ministry goals. Some pray, some counsel, some teach, some donate money, but the primary purpose is to provide evangelism and discipleship to our youth.

Our Campership Program

Submit a Campership Application which consists of the following:

  • Applicant’s information (including parent/guardian info along with permission to use essay and recipient’s picture in marketing promos).

  • Compose a written reflection essay (up to 500 words) in the online form below.

  • Topic for Grades 3-5: TBA

  • Topic for Grades 6-8: TBA

  • Topic for Grades 9-11: TBA

The Essay

  1. Write an essay that fits the interests and requirements of the Campership assigned topic for your grade group. The essay is your chance to show how you are the ideal recipient.

  2. Speak from your heart. Keep it real. The simplest experience can be monumental if you present it honestly.

  3. Originality counts. The judges may be asked to review many essays. It's your job to make your essay stand out from the rest. Be creative in your answers but be sure your essay addresses the topic on the application.

  4. Proofread carefully.

The Board of Directors and the family of Richard Powell will thoughtfully read all essays to determine the award winners.

One boy and one girl from each of the three groups will be selected.

Deadlines: Accepting applications from May 1 - August 1, 2024 to be awarded for the 2025 Camp 207 session.

*Note: Because of limited funds, not everyone who submits an application will be selected for a Campership Award.

Camperships will be awarded the deposit required at the time of registration. Parents will be responsible for remaining balance. They will also have a reserved spot in 2025.

MAKE IT STAND OUT
